Brewing Guide

Simple ways to get the best from your coffee

Start Simple

Not every brewing method tastes the same. Some highlight clarity and origin, while others bring more body and richness. Start with what feels right—and refine from there.

V60 / Pour Over

Clean, bright, and expressive. Best for discovering the true character of the coffee.

AeroPress

Smooth, balanced, and easy. A great starting point for consistent results.

French Press

Rich and full-bodied. Ideal for a deeper, more comforting cup.

Moka Pot (Stovetop)

Strong, bold coffee with a rich body. A great alternative to espresso at home.

Espresso

Bold and concentrated. Perfect for intensity or milk-based drinks.

Where to Start

For specialty coffee, we recommend starting with pour-over methods like V60. They highlight clarity, balance, and the natural character of the bean. If you want something easier and more forgiving, AeroPress is a great place to begin.

V60/ Pour Over

Highlights clarity and flavor detail. Clean, structured, and expressive.

  1. Use 1 tablespoon of coffee per 6 fl oz of water (medium grind, like sea salt).
  2. Start with a bloom: pour a small amount of water and wait 30–45 seconds.
  3. Slowly pour the remaining water in circular motions for even extraction.
  4. Total brew time: 2–3 minutes.

Aeropress

Balanced, smooth, and versatile with low bitterness.

  1. Use 1 heaping tablespoon of coffee per 8–9 fl oz of water (medium grind).
  2. Add hot water (185–200°F) and stir briefly.
  3. Let it brew for about 1 minute.
  4. Press slowly and steadily for a clean, smooth cup.

French Press

Rich, full-bodied, and smooth with more texture.

  1. Use 1 tablespoon of coffee per 4–5 fl oz of water (coarse grind).
  2. Add hot water (200°F), stir gently, and let it sit for 4 minutes
  3. Press the plunger down slowly and evenly.
  4. Serve immediately to avoid over-extraction.

Moka pot

Strong, bold coffee with a deeper body, close to espresso.

  1. Fill the bottom chamber with hot water (just below the valve).
  2. Add medium-fine coffee to the filter basket (do not tamp).
  3. Heat on medium until coffee rises to the top chamber.
  4. Remove from heat as soon as it starts to sputter.

Espresso

Concentrated, bold, and intense with a rich crema.

  1. Use finely ground coffee and dose evenly into the portafilter.
  2. Tamp firmly and consistently.
  3. Extract for 25–30 seconds.
  4. Aim for a smooth, steady flow (like warm honey).

Which Method Is Best?

For clarity and bright flavors - V60

Reveals the most delicate notes and highlights the coffee’s origin.

For simplicity and consistency - AeroPress

Easy to master, forgiving, and always delivers a smooth, balanced cup.

For body and richness - French Press

Full-bodied with a heavier mouthfeel and deeper texture.

For intensity and concentration - Espresso

Bold, powerful, and packed with flavor in a small shot.

For a strong, everyday alternative - Moka Pot

Rich and robust, offering an espresso-like experience without a machine.

"The Essential" is best enjoyed as pour-over, especially with V60, where its structure, sweetness, and subtle brightness come through clearly. It also performs beautifully with AeroPress and French press—and works well as espresso for a bolder cup.
